Invictus Energy Limited has begun mobilising well services equipment and personnel for its Musuma-1 exploration well in Zimbabwe’s Cabora Bassa Basin, marking a key milestone as the company prepares for its next drilling campaign.

The company said rig-up operations are already underway following the successful relocation of Exalo Rig 202 from the Mukuyu-2 wellsite to the Musuma-1 location, while equipment mobilisation, installation, testing and final maintenance activities continue ahead of drilling.

Invictus Energy said the Musuma-1 well remains on track to spud during November, with the precise drilling date dependent on the arrival of the remaining critical well services equipment required to commence operations.

Scott Macmillan, Managing Director of Invictus Energy, said the company was focused on completing the final stages of preparation at the wellsite.

“With the rig now positioned at the Musuma-1 wellsite, our focus is on completing rig-up and mobilisation of the remaining equipment required to commence drilling,” said Macmillan.

He said the company remained on schedule despite awaiting the arrival of some critical equipment.

“We remain on track to spud Musuma-1 in coming weeks, with the exact timing dependent on the arrival of remaining critical well services equipment into Zimbabwe,” he said.

Macmillan said the exploration well could play a significant role in expanding the company’s resource base within the basin.

“Musuma-1 presents an exciting opportunity to test a significant new exploration target and potentially add to our existing gas-condensate discoveries in the Cabora Bassa Basin,” he said.

The Musuma-1 campaign is being undertaken within Invictus Energy’s 80%-owned and operated Cabora Bassa Project, where the company has previously announced a significant gas discovery at the Mukuyu field. The company’s asset portfolio covers approximately 360,000 hectares in the basin and includes the Mukuyu Gas Field alongside several additional exploration prospects.

The company said rig-up activities are being conducted in parallel with mobilisation of well services equipment as crews work towards final rig acceptance and operational readiness ahead of drilling.

The Musuma-1 well is expected to test a new exploration target within the Cabora Bassa Basin as Invictus Energy continues efforts to unlock Zimbabwe’s hydrocarbon potential and build on its previous gas-condensate discoveries.
