ESG rules are the right call for mining industry
Government is right to tighten environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements for mining companies.
Making ESG compliance a legal prerequisite for obtaining, renewing or extending mining rights is not an unnecessary burden on investors, it is a long-overdue step towards ensuring that mineral wealth generates lasting value without leaving the country with environmental and social liabilities.
For years, Zimbabwe has wrestled with the contradiction of having extensive mining laws and regulations.
