PLATINUM miner Zimplats has appointed Ms Meroonisha Kerber as non-executive director to its management executive committee.
‘The board of directors of Zimplats is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Meroonisha Kerber as a non-executive director of the Company with effect from 1 September 2018,’ read part of the statement released on 3 September 2018.
Kerber joins an 11 member management executive committee, joining Sibusisiwe Chindove, head of corporate affairs, the only woman who was among 10 men sitting in the executive committee.
In recent years, women lobby groups have been clamouring for more opportunities for women in the top echelons of power in both business and political spheres.
Government has strongly supported women empowerment and emancipation to participate fully in economic life across all sectors of the economy to achieve gender balance, internationally agreed goals for development and sustainability, and improve the quality of life for women, men, families and communities.
Ms Kerber, BCom CA (SA), was appointed as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and an executive director of Impala Platinum Holdings Limited “Implats” with effect from 1 August 2018.
Ms Kerber is an experienced finance executive having served as Senior Vice President, Finance at AngloGold Ashanti Limited, prior to which she spent 11 years at Anglo American Platinum Limited, serving as Head of Financial Accounting for the majority of that period.
Located about 150km southwest of Harare, Zimplats is Zimbabwe’s principal platinum group of metals producer specializing in platinum group metals such as platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium & osmium. ENDS//
