The Mberengwa Gold Service Centre has reached 95 percent completion, positioning the district to become a key hub for formalized small-scale gold mining as major industrial and infrastructure investments gather pace across the area.
The near-complete facility is expected to provide artisanal and small-scale miners with access to formal milling, processing and assaying services, helping improve gold recoveries while reducing mineral leakages through official gold marketing channels.
The development was highlighted during a joint ministerial tour of Mberengwa on Tuesday to assess progress on strategic industrialisation projects being implemented through public-private partnerships and government-backed infrastructure programmes.
Also advancing is the US$12 million Livetouch clinker and lime production plant, which has reached 80 percent completion. Located near significant limestone deposits, the project is expected to boost domestic mineral beneficiation and strengthen industrial activity in the district.
Project officials said construction of the plant has already created about 300 jobs for local residents, with employment opportunities expected to increase once commercial production begins.
To support growing industrial activity, authorities are accelerating complementary infrastructure projects across the district.
Upgrades to the Sandawana Road are underway to improve transportation of mining inputs and mineral products, while the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is finalising a new power substation aimed at enhancing electricity supply reliability.
Government officials said the combined impact of the gold service centre, clinker and lime plant, road upgrades and power infrastructure will drive economic growth, create employment and advance Zimbabwe’s mineral value-addition agenda.
The projects are part of broader efforts to stimulate rural industrialisation and support the country’s ambition of achieving upper-middle-income status through increased beneficiation and local processing of mineral resources. ![]()
