HARARE (Mining Index) – NICKEL producer, Bindura Nickel Corporation (BNC) is in talks with international investors to develop a 45 MW solar plant projected to cost US$45 million, Mining Index has established.
BNC chief executive officer Batirai Manhando revealed his organisation was engaging international investors to partner with in setting up solar solutions with a capacity of 45 MW.
“Yes we are exploring that route and working with potential partners to develop the solar solution,” said Manhando.
Asked to comment on how much the project is going to cost, he said “Those figures still being worked on but roughly you invest US$1million per MW.”
BNC requires 10MW of electricity per day and had been supplementing its power requirements through imports from Cabora Bassa in Mozambique.
Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC), Blanket Mine and RioZim have so far indicated intentions to set up solar plants to mitigate power outages crippling output. ENDS// www.miningindex.co.zw
