Dinson Iron and Steel Company swept three top awards at the ZimTrade 2025 Exporter of the Year Awards, underscoring its growing influence on Zimbabwe’s export performance as national iron and steel exports jumped 224 percent in 2026.
The Manhize-based steel producer secured the Overall Exporter of the Year Award, Intra-Africa Exporter of the Year Award, and Engineering Sector Exporter of the Year Award, beating Treger Products’ Monarch Steel Division in the latter category.
The awards come as the company continues to strengthen its position as a major contributor to the country’s export earnings through its integrated steel plant in Manhize, one of Zimbabwe’s largest industrial projects.
Zimbabwe’s iron and steel exports, largely driven by output from the DISCO plant, reached US$150.3 million during the first seven months of 2026, up 224 percent from US$46.3 million recorded during the same period in 2025.
Industry data shows that around 60 percent of DISCO’s annual steel production is exported to regional and international markets, generating significant foreign currency inflows and helping diversify Zimbabwe’s export base.
The Manhize integrated steel plant, which has an annual production capacity of 600,000 tonnes of carbon steel, has become a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s industrialisation drive under the National Development Strategy.
Beyond meeting domestic demand, the facility is increasingly supplying markets across Africa, strengthening the country’s footprint in regional trade.
Observers noted that the rapid rise in steel exports demonstrates the potential of large-scale manufacturing investments to boost export revenues, create industrial linkages and position Zimbabwe as an emerging regional steel production hub.
The ZimTrade Exporter of the Year Awards recognise companies that have excelled in export performance, market expansion and contribution to national economic growth.
DISCO’s clean sweep at this year’s awards signals the growing weight of the steel industry in Zimbabwe’s export economy and underscores the impact of the Manhize project on the country’s manufacturing renaissance. ![]()
