By Business Reporter – Sunday 8 February 2021

HARARE (Mining Index) – WOMEN across the country have welcomed the appointment of Ms Mpindiwe as substantive Provincial Mining Director (PMD) for Mashonaland West province.

Mpindiwe has been acting PMD following her move from Masvingo province, succeeding the former late PMD, Mr Muzanenhamo.

Mpindiwe was also acting PMD in Masvingo province before moving to Mashonaland West province.

Women in various provinces hailed her appointment saying they look forward to more women taking up influential positions in the mining sector.

‘This appointment is a source of inspiration to very girl and woman. It is a positive step towards inclusion of women in decision making positions in the mining sector,’

‘History has been made therefore it has to be superseded. We are looking forward to more women getting involved in influencing policy and decision making,’

‘The country has seen several mines officials being suspended or fired for various malpractices. Her appointment is a sign of trust and confidence in her leadership prowess exuded in the years she has been acting as PMD,’

‘It is just a step forward and we are looking forward to a female permanent secretary, Deputy Minister and Mines Minister,’ added Chiedza Chipangura, a gold, chrome and glitter stone miner.

‘Congratulations on your substantive appointment, patience and endurance pays. The Almighty makes things beautiful in the fullness of time. We are celebrating with you all the way up,’ said Rudorwashe Nyangari, a female gold miner in Midlands province. ENDS// www.miningindex.co.zw
