HARARE (Mining Index) – THE Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy was yesterday dissolved following allegations of intended corruption involving a $400 000 bribe.
Norton legislator Temba Mliswa together with three other members of the committee are alleged to have demanded a $400 000 carrot, that is $100 000 each, from James Ross Goddard, a local businessman seeking to mine in Hwange.
Parliament’s Committee of Standing Rules and Orders chaired by Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda is set to unveil a Privileges Committee to investigate such allegations.
On February 7, 2019, Mliswa stepped down as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee following these accusations. ENDS//
