Harare (Mining Index) – GOKWE Mapfungautsi MP Tawanda Karikoga said mineral wealth in his constituency is not yet fully exploited and if fully exploited the resources will uplift the lives of people Mapfungautsi.
In an interview with Mining Index, Karikoga said his constituency has abundant gold deposits which needs exploration.
“As a Constituency, we are still to be fully exploited in terms of mineral resources. We know we have gold in abundance but it is not yet fully exploited,” he said.
Gokwe, like most areas in the Midlands province is endowed with mineral resources.
Some of the challenges which led to under exploration of the constituency include poor road infrastructure.
Karikoga said government has been working to improve infrastructural development in Mapfungautsi.
“The Second Republic came with massive infrastructural development, and we are thankful to our President for resourcing DDF and other units. Our roads have been done and we are hoping the same will be extended to water as well,” he said.
Gokwe is also generally known as a cotton producing area as attested by Karikoga, “We are also exceptional cotton farmers.” Karikoga said a major challenge in cotton production has been on the payment of farmers.
Meanwhile, government is set to commission massive irrigation program In Gokwe.
“We are thankful to our President and his government. We have 270 hectares irrigation project to be commissioned soon by Mtangi Dam. We hope this will open opportunities for investors. Besides, our first Gokwe Stadium will be by this Dam,” he said.
Karikoga is the current Zanu PF Gokwe South District Coordinating Committee Chairperson.
“ Focus is on delivering our promises, it’s not always about elections. Right now we are in the midst of a deadly pandemic, we have a duty to protect our people from the virus,” he said. ENDS //www.miningindex.co.zw
